Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal took the stage, his voice brimming with conviction. “The world's AI journey will be incomplete without India,” he declared, sparking thunderous applause.

In a world reshaped by AI, India isn’t content with being a spectator. Speaking at the session AI and India's Economic Future: Driving Growth, Innovation, and Competitiveness, Goyal painted a future where AI fuels economic expansion and social transformation.

“AI embodies the aspirations of a new India. The world turns to us because they recognize our unmatched talent, our deep tech expertise, and the sheer number of STEM graduates we produce,” he stated.

He then spotlighted a statistic that stunned many in the room: 43% of India’s STEM graduates are women.

“This isn’t just about numbers. This means we are making AI smarter, more dynamic, and more inclusive,” he added, reinforcing India’s role as a powerhouse of innovation.

Yet, he delivered a critical reminder—AI is a tool, but the human mind remains its architect.

“AI will shape our future, but human intelligence must always lead. Ethical, responsible, and human-centered AI is non-negotiable.”

Goyal compared AI’s growth to a symphony—flourishing with data, ideas, and continuous learning. And India? It’s the maestro, conducting a future of innovation. India’s undeniable strengths include:

• A vast population generating an immense data pool.

Now the fourth-largest adopter of AI globally, India’s AI influence is shaping international trade negotiations.

 “No AI revolution is complete without Indian minds leading the way,” Goyal stated firmly. “India will stand at the helm of the AI age.”

To cement its global AI leadership, the Indian government has launched bold initiatives: Responsible AI for Youth – Equipping young Indians with AI education.

• AI for All Mission – Making AI literacy a national priority.
• National AI Portal – A hub for research, collaboration, and breakthroughs.
• India AI Mission – Accelerating AI’s adoption across industries.

Goyal cautioned against knee-jerk regulations on AI and data privacy. “We must safeguard data sovereignty and ethical AI, but without stifling innovation,” he emphasized, urging a forward-thinking approach.

If India is the engine of AI, Mumbai is fast emerging as its nerve center. Goyal outlined why the city is uniquely positioned to dominate the AI landscape:

“With its unmatched infrastructure and thriving innovation culture, Mumbai is set to become a global AI hub,” he declared.
