The Central and Western Zones have commenced the Regional PM Gati Shakti Workshops, with the first workshop held in Panaji, Goa. The workshops aim to build synergy among the different stakeholders and encourage mutual learning among the States and Central Ministries/Departments.

PM GatiShakti: Integrated Planning To Improve Last Mile Connectivity

Sumita Dawra, the Special Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, described the PM GatiShakti platform as a transformative approach that enables integrated planning and synchronised implementation for multimodal and last mile connectivity.

The workshop's objective is to bring together the states to learn from each other, showcase what is being done at the national level, and demonstrate the exemplary practices of other states in infrastructure planning. The workshop aims to improve infrastructure project planning both at the national and state levels based on the Prime Minister's GatiShakti approach and reduce logistics costs while enhancing logistics efficiency.

The workshop will see over 100 participants from Central Ministries/Departments such as the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Railways, Department of Telecommunications, and NITI Aayog, as well as the State Governments of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. The workshop will feature discussions on the use cases of NMP adoption by central Ministries & State Departments for planning, state logistics policies, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS), city logistics, and the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) mechanism.

A Transformative Approach

The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan is a transformative approach that enables integrated planning and synchronised implementation for multimodal and last-mile connectivity. The GIS-based platform has proven to be effective in providing a comprehensive view of all infrastructure projects, including road and rail networks, ports, and airports. This comprehensive view has helped to optimise project planning, reduce costs, and improve the logistics efficiency of the country.

The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan is a valuable tool that has enabled faster and more efficient project planning and implementation. Its use has resulted in significant cost savings, improved logistics efficiency, and enhance public welfare. With continued use and development, the National Master Plan is set to transform India's infrastructure landscape and bring about a more connected and prosperous future.

What is PM Gati Shakti all about?

GatiShakti Governance Mechanism

Before any State Government, Central Ministry, or PSU plans to invest in an economic zone such as a textile park, fishing cluster, or Agro-processing centre, they can access information on the current status of multimodal connectivity, including proximity to highways, airports, rail, and ports. This will enable the concerned planning and implementing agencies to make informed decisions.

In addition, infrastructure Central Ministries will be able to plan and prioritize connectivity enhancement projects to ensure first-mile and last-mile connectivity in a time-bound manner. This will enable these agencies to take necessary steps to improve the existing infrastructure and develop new projects that are better aligned with the needs of the local communities. By doing so, they will be able to create an environment that is conducive to economic growth and development.
