In a nation racing toward its vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, innovation is critical! From bustling metros to emerging Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, Indian startups are redefining industries, building world-class products, and addressing some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Now, in a move that could accelerate this journey, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has teamed up with Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, to give young entrepreneurs an unprecedented platform to innovate, test, and scale their solutions.

The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is anchored in Hero MotoCorp’s flagship innovation accelerator program — Hero For Startups — and aligns closely with the Government of India’s Startup India initiative. The focus? Empowering early-stage startups working in next-generation mobility, clean technology, and deep tech — three sectors at the heart of India’s economic and environmental transformation.

Hero & DPIIT Join Hands

For most early-stage startups, access to cutting-edge technology and industry expertise is often the missing link between a great idea and a viable, scalable product. This collaboration aims to bridge that gap.

Selected startups will gain exclusive access to Hero MotoCorp’s advanced Research and Development facilities in India and Germany. These aren’t just labs — they are innovation hubs where some of the most advanced two-wheeler technologies in the world are conceived and tested. Alongside infrastructure, startups will be plugged into Hero’s expansive network of dealers, suppliers, and partners, opening up invaluable market linkages.

The program also promises mentorship from seasoned industry leaders and opportunities to work on paid Proofs of Concept (PoCs) — a crucial step that not only validates innovative solutions but also gives startups real-world market exposure.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership, Sanjiv, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, said:

“This partnership with Hero MotoCorp will strengthen our commitment to enable product-focused startups that are solving India’s mobility challenges. By connecting industry experience with grassroots innovation, we aim to fast-track the journey from idea to impact — especially in emerging technologies and Tier 2/3 markets.”

Echoing this vision, Dr. Sumeet Jarangal, Director at DPIIT, added:

“Through this MoU, we are fostering deeper collaboration between startups and large enterprises. Hero MotoCorp’s domain expertise, combined with Startup India’s growing network of recognised startups, will accelerate innovation pipelines in the mobility, climate change, and manufacturing sectors.”

Industry Leader with a Nation-Building Vision

For Hero MotoCorp, this is more than just a corporate partnership — it’s a mission deeply rooted in national progress. Dr. Pawan Munjal, Executive Chairman, Hero MotoCorp, stated:

“At Hero MotoCorp, we see ourselves not just as industry leaders, but as nation-builders — deeply aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. India’s vibrant startup ecosystem is a vital force in shaping a self-reliant and globally competitive Bharat. Our partnership with DPIIT reflects our commitment to nurturing this entrepreneurial spirit.”

The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Sumeet Jarangal, Director at DPIIT, and Utkarsh Mishra, Global Innovation Portfolio Lead at Hero MotoCorp, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Beyond the ceremonial signing, this collaboration carries strategic weight. By blending policy support from the government with deep industry know-how, it aims to create fresh pathways for innovation-led industrial growth. The initiative also resonates with national campaigns like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat@2047, signaling a strong alignment between entrepreneurial ambition and national priorities.

The sectors targeted — mobility, clean tech, and deep tech — are not just buzzwords. They represent the frontier where India’s future competitiveness will be decided. Electric vehicles, sustainable transportation systems, renewable energy integration, advanced manufacturing, AI, and IoT — these are the arenas where global innovation battles are being fought.

By giving Indian startups the resources, mentorship, and market access they need, the DPIIT-Hero MotoCorp partnership could very well accelerate India’s position as a global innovation hub in these spaces.

As the engines of India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem rev up, collaborations like this are the turbo boost needed to turn bold ideas into impactful realities. And with the road to Viksit Bharat 2047 stretching ahead, every such partnership takes the country a step closer to its destination.
