The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered with Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, a Generative AI (GenAI) company, to enhance Aadhaar services with AI-powered solutions. This collaboration aims to introduce voice-based interactions, real-time fraud alerts, and multilingual support to make Aadhaar services more accessible and secure for millions of users. Here TICE explains how it will help you access Aadhaar services without any hassle.
Say Bye To Aadhaar Frauds!
Starting March 18, 2025, Aadhaar holders will be able to interact with UIDAI services using voice commands, eliminating the need for complex navigation through websites or apps. This will be particularly beneficial for individuals who are less comfortable with text-based interfaces, such as elderly citizens or those from rural areas.
Beyond convenience, this AI-powered voice support will also allow UIDAI to gather real-time feedback from users about their Aadhaar enrollment and update experiences. Have you ever faced an issue where a service provider overcharged you? With the new system, you can simply voice your concern, helping UIDAI track and address such problems more effectively.
Strengthening Security: Real-Time Fraud Detection
Aadhaar authentication is a critical part of India’s digital infrastructure, facilitating everything from banking transactions to government welfare benefits. However, security breaches and fraudulent activities have been a concern. To tackle this, UIDAI’s AI-driven system will actively monitor authentication requests in real time and immediately alert users if any suspicious activity is detected on their Aadhaar accounts.
For instance, if an authentication request is made from an unusual location or multiple failed attempts are detected, the AI system will trigger an alert, empowering users to take swift action and prevent potential fraud. This proactive approach marks a significant leap in Aadhaar security, offering an additional layer of protection to millions of users.
Breaking Language Barriers: Multilingual AI Support
India is home to more than 120 languages and numerous dialects. Recognizing the linguistic diversity of the country, UIDAI and Sarvam AI have ensured that the new AI-powered system will support 10 languages at launch—Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, and Malayalam. More languages are expected to be added in the coming months to make the system even more inclusive.
This means that whether someone speaks Tamil in Chennai, Marathi in Pune, or Odia in Bhubaneswar, they can now access Aadhaar services in their mother tongue, making the system far more user-friendly and accessible than ever before.
A Secure & User-Centric Innovation
Security and privacy remain at the core of UIDAI’s innovation strategy. The new GenAI stack will be hosted on UIDAI’s air-gapped infrastructure, ensuring that no Aadhaar-related data is exposed to external networks. This on-premise approach enhances data security and prevents unauthorized access to sensitive information.
The partnership is structured under UIDAI’s volunteer policy, enabling Sarvam AI’s industry experts to work closely with UIDAI’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru. Importantly, UIDAI retains complete ownership of the AI solutions developed under this collaboration, reinforcing its commitment to keeping Aadhaar data secure while leveraging cutting-edge technology.
The partnership between UIDAI and Sarvam AI is being hailed as a landmark initiative in India’s digital transformation journey.
“UIDAI is a people-centric organization. GenAI is the next technology evolution in our journey as a technology pioneer, building on our long-standing commitment to innovation for ease of living,” said Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI.
Echoing this sentiment, Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI, shared his enthusiasm about the collaboration.
“We are privileged to collaborate with UIDAI. This engagement exemplifies the immense potential of AI to drive public good,” he stated.
With over 1.3 billion Aadhaar holders, UIDAI plays a pivotal role in India’s digital identity ecosystem. By integrating AI-powered solutions, this partnership with Sarvam AI is set to enhance the efficiency, security, and accessibility of Aadhaar services, ultimately benefiting millions of citizens.
As technology continues to evolve, this initiative serves as a glimpse into the future of AI-driven governance—one where digital services are more intuitive, secure, and inclusive. With this groundbreaking development, UIDAI is not just modernizing its infrastructure but also reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that Aadhaar remains a trusted and indispensable tool for every Indian.
