At the Inaugural session of WAVES, Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, said "In the coming years, the creative economy can increase its contribution to India's GDP. Today, India is emerging as a global hub for film production, digital content, gaming, fashion, music and live concerts...This is the dawn of the Orange Economy in India,"The ‘orange economy’, also known as the creative economy, refers to economic activities that leverage creativity, culture, and intellectual property to generate wealth and jobs.

India’s entertainment and creative scenes are booming like never before. The country is quickly becoming a major player on the global stage. More people are tuning into local movies, music, gaming, and online content. This rise isn’t just luck — it’s driven by many factors. The digital shift, mobile penetration, low cost internet, and more young consumers are a few reasons. Now, India aims even higher with WAVES 2025 — a plan to turn the country into a top global hub for creativity and entertainment.

 “The Indian entertainment industry is valued at over $28 billion and will grow to $100 billion by 2028” said Mukesh Ambani during his well researched speech at WAVES 2025 

Since recent years, growth rates have been steady, with new avenues opening up every day. Major segments include film, music, gaming, digital content, and performance arts. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and local platforms are revolutionizing how people watch and enjoy content.

The Indian consumers needs are changing and this behaviour change along with digital penetration have become Key Drivers of Growth Internet penetration is rising quickly, especially with smartphones. Today, over 75% of Indians own a mobile device, making digital content more accessible. Consumption is shifting more toward digital, with younger audiences leading the way. Trends in gaming, streaming, and online content will drive the biggest growth. New formats, like virtual concerts and interactive stories, will become common. 

Innovations and Tech Fuelling Expansion as Digital Content Creation Gets Smarter

New tech tools are changing how stories are made. AI helps craft scripts and improve visual effects. VR and AR create immersive experiences, making fans feel like they’re part of the story. Films and shows are now more engaging thanks to these innovations. Indian productions are increasingly experimenting with these tools to stand out locally and globally. Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen at WAVES said, “The next boom of India is not in software, but in creativity and entertainment. 

The Power of Digital Platforms Streaming giants like Netflix, Prime Video, Jio Hotstar have changed everything. They offer endless choices on demand, shifting focus away from traditional cinemas. Social media channels, YouTube, and Instagram also fuel the rise of influencers and user-generated content. 

This ecosystem helps creators connect directly with audiences and build loyal followings. Influencers are now key players, shaping trends and pushing new products. With these shifts, the creative industry is more vibrant and diverse than ever.
