Reiterating the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, the Prime Minister called on India to build capacities across sectors. “Every product that can be made in India must be produced in India. From chips to ships, India must manufacture everything within its borders,” he declared.

Modi clarified that self-reliance does not mean isolationism. On the contrary, local innovation and domestic production enhance India’s competitiveness globally, while excessive dependence on foreign sources weakens national growth, economy, and security.

UPITS-2025: A Platform for Innovation and Global Collaboration

Themed “Ultimate Sourcing Begins Here,” the trade show features over 2,400 exhibitors across sectors including textiles, handicrafts, electronics, IT, leather, food processing, AYUSH, and agriculture. Russia, the partner country, highlights India’s growing international trade relations while spotlighting domestic entrepreneurship.

With 1.25 lakh B2B visitors and 4.5 lakh B2C participants expected, the event promises robust opportunities for exporters, small businesses, and consumers. Modi praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Uttar Pradesh government for positioning the state as a hub of trade, industry, and innovation.

Inclusive Growth: Platforms for Al

PM Modi drew attention to India’s fintech success story, citing platforms like UPI, Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and ONDC. “These are not just digital tools—they empower everyone. From mall shoppers to roadside tea vendors, everyone uses UPI. This is true inclusive growth,” he said.

He highlighted government initiatives like PM SVANidhi, which has made credit accessible to street vendors, and GeM (Government e-Marketplace), which now allows 25 lakh sellers, including small shopkeepers, to sell directly to the government. Through GeM, the government has procured goods worth ₹15 lakh crore, with ₹7 lakh crore coming from MSMEs—a testament to Antyodaya, or uplifting the last person in the queue.

Easing Business, Upholding Quality

PM Modi emphasized structural reforms that have simplified doing business in India. “We have eliminated more than 40,000 compliances and decriminalized hundreds of minor errors that once led to harassment,” he said, urging businesses to maintain world-class quality standards.

“Indians today proudly say, ‘this is swadeshi,’ and they expect local products to meet global standards,” he added.

Research, Innovation, and Private Investment

Highlighting the role of research and innovation, the Prime Minister called for greater private investment in R&D. “Government has taken steps, but now private investment must multiply in research, design, and innovation. This is the demand of our times,” he said, urging entrepreneurs to build an ecosystem of indigenous innovation for India’s long-term competitiveness.

Uttar Pradesh: Emerging Industrial Powerhouse

The Prime Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in the national economy:

  • Connectivity: The state boasts India’s largest network of expressways and international airports, enhancing logistics efficiency.

  • Electronics & Mobile Manufacturing: UP produces nearly 55% of India’s mobile phones, making the country the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer.

  • Semiconductors: A major semiconductor facility is set to begin operations, strengthening India’s self-reliance in critical technology.

  • Tourism & Heritage: UP leads in heritage tourism, with initiatives like Namami Gange cruise tourism.

  • One District One Product (ODOP): Local crafts are reaching global markets, benefiting artisans and small businesses.

The Prime Minister encouraged investors to leverage UP’s MSME ecosystem to produce complete products within the state, assuring support from both the state and central governments.

Defence Manufacturing: Made in India

Highlighting strides in defence manufacturing, Modi said: “In India, we are creating an ecosystem where every component bears the mark of Made in India.”

He pointed to upcoming AK-203 rifle production in Amethi, the UP Defence Corridor, and BrahMos missile manufacturing, illustrating India’s reduced dependence on imports. “Our armed forces want indigenous solutions. This is a golden opportunity for Indian industry,” he emphasized.

GST Reforms: Relieving Households and Businesses

The Prime Minister showcased India’s next-generation GST reforms, explaining their real-world impact:

  • A shirt costing ₹1,000 now attracts ₹35 tax instead of ₹170.

  • Household essentials worth ₹100 now cost ₹105 instead of ₹131.

  • Tractors, previously taxed over ₹70,000, now attract only ₹30,000, saving farmers over ₹40,000.

  • Scooters and motorcycles are cheaper by ₹8,000–₹9,000 compared to 2014.

“These reforms directly benefit families, saving households ₹15,000–₹20,000 annually,” he said.

India: A Global Investment Destination

Modi highlighted India’s unique combination of democratic stability, policy predictability, skilled workforce, and youthful consumer base, urging global investors to participate in the country’s growth. “Investing in India, and particularly in Uttar Pradesh, is a win-win,” he said.

Towards 2047: Collective Action for a Self-Reliant India

As India approaches its centenary of independence in 2047, the Prime Minister called for collaborative efforts between government, industry, and citizens. “Together, we will build a self-reliant India where every product, from household items to advanced technology, proudly bears the Made in India mark,” he said, extending best wishes to participants of UPITS-2025.

The inauguration saw the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior dignitaries from India and abroad, marking a powerful beginning to what promises to be a landmark trade show.
