A Vision for Startup Excellence
Karnataka’s commitment to strengthening its position as India’s innovation powerhouse is evident in the ambitious SWIFT City project. According to MB Patil, Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries Minister, SWIFT City will focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
"The project will be equipped with plug-and-play infrastructure across 8-10 facilities, each ranging from 20 to 25 acres, specifically designed to meet the needs of startups," he said.

The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) is already in the process of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 647.69-acre Sarjapur Industrial Area. The DPR will include a comprehensive economic analysis, layout designs, and detailed cost estimates, setting the stage for a seamless development process. The proximity of Sarjapur to National Highways 44 and 48, coupled with Bengaluru's reputation as a hub for technology and innovation, makes it an ideal location for the project.
A Hub for Startups and Innovation
The key objective behind SWIFT City is to fill the gap in workspace availability in Bengaluru, which has been facing a shortage of large, well-equipped office spaces suitable for growing startups. The new city will feature state-of-the-art offices, co-working spaces, and residential clusters. In addition, it will include schools, healthcare facilities, and wide, well-planned roads to ensure a seamless, integrated living and working environment for professionals.

The city's offerings will cater to small and medium-sized startups, with flexible workspace options ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 square feet, available for lease, sale, or investment-sharing models. This diversity in options is designed to accommodate the dynamic needs of businesses in their early stages, allowing them to scale and innovate.
Building the 'Silicon State'
SWIFT City’s strategic focus will be on emerging sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and fintech. These areas are expected to attract both national and international players, accelerating Karnataka’s vision to become India’s leading state for technological innovation.
Minister Patil emphasized, “We aim to transform Karnataka into a ‘Silicon State,’ extending Bengaluru’s Silicon City recognition across the state and ensuring a more decentralized growth model."
In addition to SWIFT City, the Karnataka government is already planning five Mini KWIN Cities in other parts of the state, including Vijayapura and Hubballi-Dharwad. These developments, aimed at supporting regional growth, will focus on creating ecosystems conducive to IT/BT growth, entrepreneurship, and innovation. These projects will be unveiled at the Invest Karnataka conclave in February 2024.

Reinforcing Economic Growth
The Karnataka government’s strategy for economic growth is rooted in attracting global talent and securing investment inflows. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently launched the first phase of the KWIN City project between Dobbaspete and Doddaballapura. This project focuses on sustainable growth, positioning Karnataka as a leader in both technological innovation and economic development.
Patil further stressed the importance of initiatives like SWIFT City, saying, “Innovative initiatives are key to securing investments and creating employment opportunities. Karnataka is committed to staying ahead by fostering economic growth and ensuring investment inflows, positioning itself as a leader in innovation and development.”
The Future of Karnataka’s Startup Ecosystem
With SWIFT City, Karnataka is taking a significant step toward becoming the go-to destination for startups and tech innovations in India. By offering world-class infrastructure, a conducive business environment, and targeted support for emerging sectors like AI and fintech, the project promises to reshape the state’s entrepreneurial landscape. As more Mini KWIN Cities are developed, Karnataka is poised to cement its reputation as a forward-thinking state, one that nurtures the growth of startups and attracts global talent, positioning itself at the forefront of India's economic and technological future.
SWIFT City, therefore, is not just a new industrial hub—it’s a symbol of Karnataka’s ambition to lead the way in India’s tech revolution and provide startups with the tools they need to succeed on a global stage.
