Indias EV Freight Revolution Begins

For years, the idea of electric trucks ruling India’s highways seemed far-fetched—better suited to glossy presentations than real roads. But things are beginning to shift. Quietly, steadily, and now unmistakably, India’s freight sector is undergoing a silent transformation—and at the forefront of this movement is Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), a homegrown startup that’s fast becoming a national force in the electric freight revolution.

In a landmark development, BillionE has secured over 250 long-term electric truck contracts with enterprise clients across India. This isn't a pilot program. It's a full-scale rollout of electric freight across industries and geographies—spanning everything from pharma to FMCG, cement to copper, and e-commerce to automotive.

It’s not just a number. It’s a signal. India is ready to electrify its freight movement, and BillionE has emerged as the partner of choice for businesses aiming to go clean, reliable, and future-ready.

“This milestone is more than a business achievement. It marks a tipping point for electric freight in India,” said Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, Billion Electric Mobility, reflecting on the company’s breakthrough.

With operations now live across South, West, and North India, including key cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Kochi, BillionE is no longer testing the waters. It is, quite literally, delivering results—on highways, in factories, and at warehouses.

The contracts cover medium and heavy-duty electric trucks ranging from 12 to 55 tonnes (GVW), strategically deployed across some of India’s busiest and most emission-intensive logistics corridors.

But what really sets the company apart is its end-to-end electric mobility solution. BillionE offers more than just trucks—it delivers a full-service electric fleet package including charging, route engineering, tech-driven fleet management, and maintenance support. No wonder enterprise clients are not just experimenting—they're committing.

A National Push: Policy Meets Industry Momentum

This surge comes at an opportune moment. The Government of India, under its PM E-DRIVE scheme, has announced ₹500 crore in incentives for electric trucks—India’s first national-level push for e-freight adoption. The scheme aims to support the rollout of 5,500 e-trucks, offering subsidies of up to ₹9.6 lakh per vehicle, depending on battery size.

This incentive could prove to be a game-changer, especially for medium and heavy-duty freight—a segment long neglected in India’s EV policy landscape. And BillionE, with its boots already on the ground, is primed to leverage this momentum.

“Policy is finally catching up with innovation,” said one industry observer. “The PM E-DRIVE scheme will reduce total cost of ownership and accelerate EV adoption in freight corridors that need it the most.”

Charge Ready: Powering India's EV Freight Future

Backing BillionE’s ambitions is CHARGE ZONE, its affiliated group company and one of India’s largest high-speed charging networks. With a growing network of heavy-duty EV chargers, the two companies are jointly electrifying critical freight routes like Mumbai–Delhi, Delhi–Bengaluru, and Coimbatore–Visakhapatnam.

“Enterprises today don’t just want EVs, they want uptime, energy efficiency, and no headaches,” explained Pirojshaw Sarkari, Advisory Council Lead, BillionE. “That’s where our integrated eMaaS platform comes in. We take care of everything.”

This model of Electrification-as-a-Service removes traditional friction points—from vehicle sourcing and charging to route planning and maintenance—making it easier for businesses to switch from diesel fleets to clean transport.

Scaling Up, Charging Ahead: What's Next for BillionE?

As of now, BillionE operates over 60 heavy-duty EV trucks, with aggressive plans to scale that number to 250+ trucks by early 2026. But this is just the beginning.

The startup recently raised $10 million in seed equity and debt funding, and is now eyeing a Pre-Series A round of $15 million. Its ambitious roadmap targets 5,000 electric trucks by 2029, supported by a $100 million Series A round targeted for the end of 2025.

The vision? To become India’s leading e-freight platform—powering the clean mobility revolution not just with technology and trucks, but with trust and partnerships.

Founded by Kartikey Hariyani, who also serves as the CEO of CHARGE ZONE, BillionE is not just another EV startup. It’s part of a larger Energy Transition Network that seeks to revolutionize India’s approach to commercial transport.

BillionE’s goals go beyond profits—they include climate impact, energy innovation, and a vision for zero-emission logistics that is scalable, practical, and deeply Indian in its approach.

The company’s earlier work includes electrification of airport buses at Bangalore airport, and now, with this heavy-duty freight push, BillionE is expanding its blueprint to mid-mile and long-haul transport—two of India’s most polluting logistics layers.

Billion Electric Mobility’s milestone of 250+ long-term EV truck contracts is not just a statistic—it’s a milestone in India’s green mobility journey. With the right mix of tech, capital, government support, and vision, BillionE is showing what’s possible.

If the company stays on course, it won’t just electrify trucks—it will redefine Indian logistics, one green mile at a time.
