India Boosts Technical Textiles with Grants for Start-Ups and Educational Courses

The Ministry of Textiles has taken crucial steps to bolster India's position in the growing field of Technical Textiles, as outlined during the 9th Empowered Programme Committee (EPC) meeting under the National Technical Textiles Mission. Key decisions made at the meeting reflect a strategic push towards innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic involvement in this high-performance sector.

Support for Innovative Start-Ups in Technical Textiles

One of the most significant announcements was the approval of two innovative start-ups for grants under the ‘Grant for Research & Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT)’ scheme. Each of these start-ups will receive approximately INR 50 Lakhs to focus on key areas such as Sustainable Textiles and Medical Textiles. This initiative is aimed at nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly in strategic sectors that promise to drive the future of textiles in India.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting innovation-driven growth in the technical textiles sector, which is expected to play an increasingly crucial role in meeting the demand for specialty fabrics across various industries, including healthcare, infrastructure, and environmental management.
