Atal Incubation Centre-Nalanda Institute of Technology Foundation (AIC-Nalanda) supported by AIM, NITI Aayog, Govt. of India celebrated World Intellectual Property Day on April 26th, 2023, in collaboration with IQAC & IPR Cell, Ramadevi Women’s University, Bhubaneswar. The primary objective of the event was to create awareness and educate students about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and its significance in research and innovation.

As part of the event, Odisha’s first Startup20X Event, an initiative under the Startup20 Engagement Group of G20, was co-organized by AIC-Nalanda and Ramadevi Women’s University (RWU). The event was inaugurated by Prof. Chandi Charan Rath, CPGC, RWU; Prof. Sasmita Mohanty, Director, IQAC, RWU; and Mr. Devjyoti Mohanty, CEO, AIC-NITF, who deliberated on the significance of the occasion.

The global theme of "Women & IP: Accelerating Innovation & Creativity" was emphasized during the event. Smt. Jayashree Mohanty, President, Luminous Infoways, spoke about the role of women in industrial research and innovation, while Ms. Abha Mishra, State Head, UNDP (Odisha), elaborated on the role of women in grassroots level innovation.

The event featured technical sessions led by experts in the field. Ms. Renu Bala, Associate Partner, SS Rana & Associates, New Delhi, helped the audience understand Intellectual Property Rights with a fundamental approach in the first session. The second session was led by Dr. T. Pavan Kumar, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IMMT, who spoke about the significance of IP in research and innovation.

Over 300 students from various schools and colleges across the city participated in the event, gaining valuable insights into Intellectual Property Rights. AIC-Nalanda aims to create a network of innovators through programs like this, nurturing them to adopt research and innovation.

Speaking about the event, Mr. Devjyoti Mohanty, CEO of AIC-NITF, said, "We are thrilled to have organized Odisha's first Startup20X Event on World IP Day. It was an enriching experience to see students engaging with the subject of Intellectual Property Rights and understanding its importance in fostering innovation. We believe that creating awareness about IPR among the youth is crucial for the growth of the startup ecosystem in Odisha and the country as a whole."

With the successful conclusion of the event, AIC-Nalanda and Ramadevi Women’s University have taken a step towards promoting multilateral dialogues, discussions, and deliberations on innovation and IP, furthering the growth of the startup ecosystem in Odisha.
