Mosambi Climate Conference: Fueling Climate Innovation in the Global South
India’s climate tech industry stands at a pivotal moment in 2025, driven by innovation, urgent climate goals, and rising investor interest. More than 800 climate tech startups are tackling key areas such as renewable energy, industrial decarbonization, the circular economy, and sustainable agriculture — positioning the sector for rapid growth. Despite a global slowdown in funding, with investments falling from $5 billion in 2022 to $2.8 billion in 2023, India’s climate tech market has shown resilience, attracting over $3.6 billion between 2014 and 2024, according to published reports.
Mosambi Climate Conference 2025: Igniting a New Era of Climate Innovation
Against this backdrop, the upcoming Mosambi Climate Conference (MC2) aims to spark a new wave of climate tech innovation across India and the Global South. Scheduled for March 20-21, 2025, at the Sheraton in Saket, New Delhi, this exclusive, invite-only event will be hosted by the Climate Collective Foundation. It plans to bring together more than 200 influential leaders from investment firms, development institutions, corporations, government bodies, and foundations. The initiative seeks to accelerate the climate tech startup ecosystem and strengthen South-South collaboration.
Paving the Path to Net-Zero
India’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 is driving this momentum. Yet, fragmented networks, regulatory complexities, and limited access to capital continue to hinder progress. Women entrepreneurs and startups from tier-two and tier-three cities are increasingly shaping the sector, but they face additional challenges in securing funding and scaling operations.
Key Themes at MC2
The conference will feature high-impact sessions addressing key themes, including:
- Deep Climate Tech in India: Exploring how Indian startups can leverage talent and resources to scale high-risk, high-reward climate innovations.
- Innovative Technologies for Adaptation & Resilience (A&R): Uncovering emerging technologies designed to help vulnerable regions withstand climate challenges.
- The Role of Startups in Grid Transformation: Tackling barriers to modernizing power grids and integrating advanced technologies.
- AI & Climate Tech Innovations: Showcasing how artificial intelligence is driving breakthroughs in renewable energy, resource management, and disaster resilience.
Bridging the Climate Finance Gap
According to The Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), only 19% of global climate finance reaches developing nations, leaving nearly 70% of potential climate tech investment untapped. To bridge this divide and unlock the region’s vast potential, strategic collaboration among investors, accelerators, corporations, and policymakers will be essential.
From Dialogue to Action
Unlike traditional forums focused mainly on dialogue, MC2 is designed for action. The conference will pursue two key objectives:
- Strengthening the climate tech startup ecosystem by fostering collaboration among critical stakeholders.
- Enhancing South-South cooperation to expand access to knowledge, funding, and networks.
Through closed-door roundtables, expert-led panels, and interactive workshops, MC2 aims to forge new partnerships, generate actionable policy recommendations, and unlock innovative investment pathways tailored for emerging markets.
Voices Behind the Mission
"The Global South holds untapped potential to lead the next wave of climate innovation, but fragmented networks and limited funding continue to hold back progress," said Pratap Raju, Founding Partner at Climate Collective. "MC2 is about bringing the right players together — aligning strategies, unlocking resources, and fast-tracking climate solutions."
Nalin Agarwal, Founding Partner at Climate Collective, added: "Achieving net zero on time is impossible without strong support for climate tech startups. We need better coordination among investors, accelerators, policymakers, and industry to scale innovation across the Global South. That’s exactly why we’re launching MC2 — to catalyze collaboration, unlock resources, and help create transformative, resilient, and sustainable solutions."
