Following the success of its inaugural event, the 2023 Green Week Edition signifies Club Med's second edition focused on raising awareness about pressing environmental issues and inspiring positive change.

What is the purpose of Club Med's 2023 Green Week Edition?

Spanning several breathtaking Asia Pacific resorts, the 2023 Green Week Edition aims to foster a profound connection with nature and cultivate a deep appreciation for the environment. Through a meticulously curated range of essential themes, this highly anticipated event holds the key to a sustainable future.

Each day of the Green Week Edition presents a unique opportunity to actively engage in meaningful initiatives that address various environmental challenges. By championing sustainable practices and promoting positive change, Club Med strives to make a tangible impact on the world. Let's explore the exciting lineup of themes and activities for each day of the event:

Day 1, 5th June: Plastics - Combating Plastic Waste

To kick off the Green Week Edition, Club Med places a strong focus on addressing the issue of plastic waste. Guests and employees unite in their commitment to making a tangible impact by actively participating in beach and mountain clean-ups. The program extends to children staying at the resorts, who not only learn about the significance of addressing plastic waste but also express their creativity through the Clean Art Planet initiative. Together, they play a vital role in combating plastic waste, which accounts for a staggering 300 million tonnes annually worldwide.

Day 2, 6th June: Biodiversity - Appreciating Local Flora and Fauna

The second day is dedicated to exploring and appreciating local biodiversity. Participants engage in activities such as seeding plants, allowing their creativity to flourish through upcycling arts and crafts inspired by local animals. To enhance the learning experience, an interactive Kahoot Quiz will be conducted, providing a fun and engaging way to deepen knowledge about biodiversity.

Day 3, 7th June: Solidarity - Supporting Local Communities

On the third day, Club Med proudly demonstrates its commitment to supporting local communities and development efforts. Collaborating with La Fondation, emblematic events will take place in all resorts, fostering a sense of connection and solidarity among participants. A special worldwide snack will provide an opportunity for everyone to come together and show their support for local communities.

Day 4, 8th June: Local Culture - Immersing in the Vibrant Local Experience

The fourth day immerses guests in the vibrant local culture. Participants have the chance to experience the destination through various activities, including engaging in local cooking demonstrations and classes, savoring the flavors of local products at the restaurant, exploring local markets (where available), and discovering unique offerings at the boutique. An Asian Elegant dress code will be encouraged to enhance the cultural immersion.

Day 5, 9th June: Food Waste - Reducing Waste and Encouraging Culinary Creativity

The final day of the Green Week focuses on addressing the issue of food waste. Guests will be invited to take part in an exciting cooking challenge, where they can showcase their culinary skills and creativity by using every ingredient provided, leaving no food to waste. Moreover, children will have a chance to actively participate by creating bird feeders using fruit shells, combining fun with a sense of environmental responsibility. It will be a day filled with valuable insights and practical steps toward a greener future.

What are Club Med's other Eco-Commitments?

Club Med's efforts to preserve nature extend beyond the facade of their properties. The brand has evolved and expanded its eco-commitments to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable operations. Some noteworthy initiatives include:

Food Waste Reduction: Club Med actively monitors and combats food waste by utilizing smart bin technology, such as the Winnow solution. This allows teams to measure and limit food waste production, contributing to sustainable buffet management.

Promoting Animal Welfare: Club Med is dedicated to developing best practices that prioritize animal welfare. With almost 70% of their resorts located near or within protected areas, Club Med partners with local environment associations to conserve biodiversity. Additionally, the brand supports the World Cetacean Alliance by offering sea cetaceans observation sessions.

Cultivating Environmental Awareness: Club Med believes in raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging guests to get involved in environmental preservation. Through comprehensive training programs, over 15,000 Gentils Organisateurs (GOs) are educated annually on sustainability, resort environments, and eco-initiatives. The resorts also employ experts on biodiversity and sustainability, further enhancing guests' understanding and engagement.

Preserving Local Cultures: Club Med Resorts celebrate local cultures through their architecture, design, cuisine, and various activities. From dance lessons and cooking classes to language sessions and lectures, guests have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of the host country or region.

Bye Bye Plastics: Club Med launched a program in 2018 to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics across its bars, restaurants, and guest rooms by 2024. The brand actively promotes recycling and water reduction practices while replacing plastic water bottles with sustainable alternatives.
